The Effect of Adchon^(¢ç) on Capillary Resistance in Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract
It is suggested that the vascular complications of diabetes mellitus are due to increased vascular permeability and decreased vascular wall resistance. Adchon¢ç (Adrenochromemonoaminoguanidine-methane-sulfonate) is a derivative of adrenochrome and known to decrease vascular permeability and increase vascular wall resistance. So we evaluated the effect of Adchon¢ç on the vascular resistance with negative pressure methods in diabetic patients. Adchon¢ç ingested orally, 180mg a day, for 4 weeks and coagulation study, platelet count, blood sugar, fundcscopic finding and capillary resistance were checked weekly.
The results as follows:
1. Coagulation study, platelet and blood sugar were not significantly different between both groups before and after Adchone administration.
2. After 4 weeks, capillary resistance checked with negative pressure method improved. in 8 (66. 7%) of 12 Adchone ingested patients but only in 2(18. 1%) of 11 contorl patients.
3. There were no remarkible side reaction after Adchen¢ç ingestion.
We conclude that Adchon is effective in increasing capillary resistance so it would be effective in preventing and treating vascular complications of diabetes mellitus.
